Abstract
서언
악기능 교정장치는 성장중에 있는 아동의 안면골격(Condylar and sutural area)에 영향을
미칠 뿐 아니라 치아 및 치조골 부위에도 교정력을 발휘하는 장치로써 자연적인 기능력
(functional force)을 유도, 전달, 제거하는 기전에 의해서 그 효과를 발휘한다.
이러한 가철성 교정장치의 발달은 1879년에 kingsley가 'inclined bite plane'을 고안하여
과도하게 후방에 위치한 하악의 경우에서 하악골의 전방이 동이나 'Jumping the bite'을 시
도한 이래로 Pierre Robins은 'Monoblock'을, Andresen은 'Biomechanical working
retainer'를 고안하였으며 특히 Andreasen은 Hauple과 함께 자신이 고안한 장치를 연구한
결과 근력을 activate 시키는 능력이 있다고 하여 'Activator'란 명칭을 사용하였으며, 또한
이들은 1936년 FKO(Functions Kiefer Orthopedie)라 그후 Bimler는 「Bimler appliance」를
Stockfish는 「kinetor」를 Balters는 「bionato」r를 고안하였으며 그후에도 계속적으로 변형 개발되었다.

The patient, 8 years 9 months old male, complained of protrusion of upper anterior
teeth. As a result of clinical examination and cephalometric analysis, it was revealed
forward relationship in maxilla, but normal in mandible.
This patient was treated with Berlin reactivator combined with extraoral headgear.
After 9 months, the following results were obtained :
1. Canine and molar relationship was improved.
2. The overjet was somewhat improved.
3. Forward maxillary growth was inhibited.
4. Relations of the upper and lower jaws (ANB difference) were improved.
