Abstract

Objectives: This study investigated the effects of workplace violence on turnover intention among clinical dental hygienists.
Method: The study participants were 210 clinical dental hygienists from Seoul and Incheon, Gyeonggi Province. A survey on workplace violence was conducted from October 21, 2021, to November 7, 2021, to gather information from participants. Statistical analysis was conducted utilizing independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, pearson correlation, and multiple regression analysis.

Results: There was a positive correlation between turnover intention and co-worker violence (r=0.397, p <0.01), including patient and carer violence (r=0.197, p <0.01). In Model ¥°, education level influenced the turnover intention of clinical dental hygienists (¥â =0.180, p <0.05). In Model ¥±, the factors that influenced the turnover intention of clinical dental hygienists were co-worker violence (¥â =0.728, p <0.001), sexual harassment, and sexual assault (¥â =-0.445, p <0.001).

Conclusion: co-worker violence, sexual harassment, and sexual assault in the workplace experienced by clinical dental hygienists were found to affect turnover intention. Therefore, to ensure the safety and the rights of dental hygienists, implementing violence countermeasures and providing violence response education is essential.
