Abstract

This study performed Steri-oss implant on the lower free end saddle area in a 45-year old woman and in a 78-year old man by using two stage operation. Implant fixture installation, the prosthetic design and fabrication, and the details after prosthesis placement were discussed. Especially, the masticatory function and efficiency, the gingival health, the comfort and satisfaction of the patient, and the peri-implant bone state were analyzed subjectively and objectively. Since these cases were presumedly still remaining in the remodelling phase as well as the inadequateness of the period for a good evaluation, no significant observations were made. The following results were obtained: 1. The fixed prosthesis using Steri-oss implant was more effectively restored than the removable prosthesis in the lower unilateral free-end saddle area, and in this case the adjacent natural teeth were not needed to reduce. 2. The length of the threaded abutment could be needed to adjust considering the relation to the opposing teeth. 3. In case of the restored prosthesis using the threaded abutment, its occlusal force was almost similar to that of the opposite natural teeth. 4. In case of the restored prosthesis using the PME abutment, the good results were obtained functionally and esthetically.
