Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of bone quality on interfacial strength between bone and implant and the effect of overtightening on the osseointegration between bone and implant. 40 screw shaped-pure titanium implants were inserted into the tibial metaphyses and the kneejoints of femurs at 10 rabbits. The implants were divided into four groups : The group ¥° was inserted with conventional method at one side of both tibias, the group ¥± was inserted in the other side overtightly, the group ¥² was inserted with conventional method at one side of both knee-joints, and the group ¥³ was inserted in the other side overtightly. After 12 weeks, animals were sacrificed and the removal torque was measured with 15 BTG-N torque gauge manometer (Tohnichi Mfg, Co, Ltd, Tokyo, Japan). The results were as follows : 1. The removal torque of the group ¥° implanted in tibias was higher than that of the group ¥² implanted in knee-joints, but there was no statistical difference between the two groups (p¡µ0.1). 2. Microfracture of the bone surrounding the implant did not affect to the bonding strength of the interface between bone and implant (p¡µ0.1).
