Abstract

Mandibular osteomyelitis (OM) is uncommon in the course of implant placement. However, cases of OM caused by implant placement have been steadily reported. Presented here is the case of a 62-year-old man who developed OM of the mandible after immediate implant placement in a mandibular molar. The patient had gradual recovery from the spreading OM following removal of the implant and prolonged antibiotic therapy. In addition, we review the literature dealing with implant-associated OM.
